CVS has confirmed to Digital Commerce 360 Health that CVS has hired Adam Pellegrini to be its senior vice president of transformation consumer health products.

CVS Health is hiring a veteran ecommerce executive to play a key role in its ongoing plan to transform CVS.com and its network of nearly 10,000 drugstores into shopping malls for healthcare products and services.

CVS has confirmed to Digital Commerce 360 Health that CVS has hired Adam Pellegrini to be its senior vice president of transformation, consumer health products.

In his new role, Pellegrini will report to CVS chief transformation officer Alan Lotvin. Previously, Pellegrini worked as general manager and senior vice president of Fitbit Health Solutions and prior to that as vice president, digital health for Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc.

CVS has yet to release details on the specific responsibilities but Pellegrini has extensive experience in mobile and digital healthcare.

At Fitbit, Pellegrini was in charge of Fitbit Solutions, a division that among other things built and now manages Fitbit Care, a connected health platform for health plans, employers and health systems that combines health coaching and virtual care through the Fitbit Plus app. Fitbit launched Fitbit Care in September 2018.

In late August Fitbit also rolled out Fitbit Premium, a monthly service priced at $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually that provides Fitbit app users with a range of health and wellness tools and services for better sleeping, weight loss and management, and exercising, among others.

At Walgreens, Pellegrini built the drugstore chain’s first digital healthcare platform, which included telehealth visits. Today Walgreens operates FindCare, a digital marketplace of healthcare providers that features about 37 health systems and digital healthcare providers, such as: Advent Health, Aspen Dental, DermatologistOnCall, Dexcom, Heal, Houston Methodist, Kadlec, LabCorp., MD Live, MedExpress Urgent Care, Norton Healthcare, Partners in Primary Care, Propeller Health, and Vanderbilt Health. Walgreens also added its own healthcare clinics and hearing and optical centers.

With FindCare, users can navigate and search for local and digital healthcare services, with offerings in certain markets as varied as neighborhood healthcare clinics, urgent care, telehealth, lab-testing, physician second opinions and even physician house calls and optical and hearing services, Walgreens says. With Find Care, consumers can go online, find providers at a participating health system, schedule and pay for a digital doctor visit, or schedule an eye exam at a Walgreens store. Fees range from $55 for the eye exam to $59 for a telehealth session for non-emergency (walk-in clinic) conditions and $89 for an online visit with a behavioral therapist. What services are covered by health insurance are determined by each user’s health plan, Walgreens says.

At CVS, Pellegrini likely will be involved with helping CVS grow HealthHubs. CVS is currently piloting HealthHubs at five locations in Houston, with plans to open additional HealthHubs in Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Tampa, Florida, this year. CVS also plans to have 1,500 total HealthHubs operating by the end of 2021. The goal of opening a wide array of HealthHubs is giving consumers more online and omnichannel options to shop for healthcare services, insurance, and medical equipment and supplies at locations that aren’t doctor’s offices and hospitals, CVS says.
