Consumers worldwide purchased $2.86 trillion in retail goods online in 2018, up 18% from the prior year, according to a just-released Internet Retailer report, which ranks and details the performance of the current leaders in ecommerce around the globe, in major regions and key merchandise segments. The 2019 Top Performers in Global Ecommerce identifies the 100 leading companies driving the impressive growth in online retailing, which now accounts for more than 15% of total retail sales globally, fully one-third higher than its market penetration as recent as 2016.
