It’s been a busy year so far for boating and marine supplies chain retailer and web merchant West Marine Inc.
In March, West Marine, No. 465 in the Digital Commerce 360 Top 1000, secured $150 million in new working funds from chief investor L Catterton and others to continue to fund existing operations and for general expansion.

Now, West Marine is investing in a significant new hire: a new chief marketing officer. It has yet to make an official announcement, but the retailer’s next CMO is Klaus Werner, formerly the chief marketing executive for Global Industrial Inc., an industrial supplies distributor with annual revenue of about $1 billion.
Werner will be West Marine’s next chief marketing and digital officer, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He is the latest hire for the retailer, which operates WestMarine.com and 236 stores in 18 states and Puerto Rico.
In May 2022, West Marine hired Stacey Renfro as chief commercial officer. Previously, she was chief digital and customer experience officer for The Vitamin Shoppe, No. 297 in the Digital Commerce 360 Top 1000.
